33 UK Luxury Rolex Fake Watches Terms Every Watch Collector Should Know, From Frog Foot To Bark Finish

So you saved up for your first Rolex, and you decided to go the “vintage” route. But now, a problem — what the hell are all these weird terms and phrases being bandied about? “Frog foot” and “gilt” and “tropical” and “Bart Simpson”—it sounds like the frenzied mutterings of some drunken cartoon character in a contemporary production of Alice In Wonderland. How exactly does all this relate to watches, and to cheap Rolex replica watches, more specifically?

Here’s the thing: Rolex aficionados love this stuff. It’s like a secret, coded language that signals that someone else is an insider, that that person loves horological esoterica as much as the next nerd. But it’s also not that complicated, for a variety of reasons, not least of which is that we’ve compiled a cheat sheet for you. Now, the next time you see that vintage UK AAA Rolex fake watches dealer, you can be sure that you’ll be on an equal footing. Kinda. At the least, they’ll know that you are someone who cares enough about the subject to sweat the details.

NOTE: If you’re looking for a guide to Rolex nicknames—i.e. the nicknames of different watch models—click here. What we’re cataloging here is the language of the obsessive and the collector. Think of it as the only Rolex glossary you’ll ever need.

Essential Rolex Terminology

2-Line

A dial with only two lines of text above the 6 o’clock marker, such as certain Ref. 14060 Submariners without denoted Chronometer certification. Some prefer the uncluttered looks of these dials.

4-Line

A dial with four lines of text. On a Ref. 14060M Submariner, for example, this would add the chronometer certification to the model name and depth rating.

Bark Finish

A feature of certain President bracelets in which the gold material is etched to look like bark.

Big Crown

Certain early top Rolex Submariner replica watches featured an oversized, 8mm winding crown—these include references 6200, 6538, and 5510.

Coronet

The Rolex crown logo

Cyclops

A watch crystal with a built-in magnifier for the date, first released in 1948 on perfect Rolex Datejust copy watches and patented in 1952. Originally these were made of acrylic and were part of the crystal; later (and current) sapphire models feature a Cyclops manufactured separately and affixed to the main crystal.

Double Swiss Underline

A particular dial on the first Daytona Ref. 6239 that features an underline beneath the word “Cosmograph” and two “SWISS” signatures—one above the 6 o’clock marker, and one below the minute track, which is partially covered by the Swiss made replica Rolex watches‘ rehaut.

Eagle Beak

A crown guard style found on certain Ref. 5512 Submariners from the late 1950s/early 1960s in which the guards are shaped like eagles’ beaks. (As opposed to the square style that preceded them, or the pointed style that followed.)

Explorer Dial

A dial featuring the Explorer I’s distinctive mix of dash, Arabic and triangular markers. This dial appeared on certain earlier Submariners such as the Ref. 6200 and certain 5513s.

Feet First

A dial in which the depth rating begins with feet rather than meters, i.e. “660ft=220m.” This may indicate that the high quality Rolex super clone watches in question—generally a Sub—was destined for the American market, but this is collector guesswork.

Frog Foot

A particular type of Rolex coronet (crown) found on certain best replica Rolex sport watches (reference 1016s, 1655s, etc.) made in the late 1960s through the mid-1970s, in which the coronet is wider and looks like the foot of…well….a frog.

Ghost Bezel

An aluminum bezel in which the coloring has faded—especially from black to blue or grayish.

Glossy Gilt Dial

A type of early Rolex dial in which the underlying brass dial blank is exposed, yielding text and other features (such as minute tracks, etc.) that looks golden in hue. These types of dials were eventually replaced by matte, and then by glossy dials with white printing and applied white gold surrounds.

HEV

The “helium escape valve,” which features on certain Rolex Professional models such as the Sea-Dweller. This one-way valve allows helium molecules to escape the watch during decompression, which prevents the crystal from flying off the Rolex fake watches online. (Yes—this is an actual problem—if you’re a saturation diver.)

Jubilee

This bracelet type, launched by Rolex in 1945 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the brand, is now an icon of watchmaking, freely imitated by other watchmakers both large and small. It still comes as standard fare on many Rolex models, perhaps most famously on the Datejust — the model on which it was launched. With its tapered, five-link design, it has a more sophisticated and dressy aspect than its cousin, the Oyster bracelet.

Matte Dial

A dial in use on wholesale replica Rolex sport watches (and others) from the mid-late 1960s through the mid-1980s. These did away with the “gilt” printing of the earlier gilt-gloss dials and instead featured a flat black surface with white text and painted tritium indices.

Maxi Dial

A dial that features oversized lume plots for increased legibility.

Mercedes Hands

This is a unique Rolex handset featured on many references whose minute hand has a round portion divided into three equally sized portions—much like the Mercedes logo. (The first Sub to feature this handset is the Ref. 6204 from 1954.)

Meters First

A dial in which the depth rating gives meters before feet, i.e. “200m=660ft.”

Neat Font

A dial style in which the printing is executed in a script that has been described as more standardized and “neater.” (Older Subs often feature printing that looks distinctly hand-drawn and messy.) Certain Ref. 5512 Subs feature such dials.

Nipple Dial

Certain vintage GMT-Master and Submariner models in yellow gold or two-tone feature black or blue dials in which the hour indices — also crafted from gold — protrude from the dial surface and are filled with luminous materials. No longer produced by the brand, the “nipple dial” can be found on references made from the mid-1950s through the mid-1980s. (Note that this dial type cannot be found on all-steel China fake Rolex watches.)

Oyster

A highly water resistant case with a screw-down crown and screw-down caseback released in 1926 and featured on most 1:1 Rolex replica watches ever since. (Currently, only the dressy Cellini doesn’t feature an Oyster case.)

Oyster (Bracelet)

Produced initially by specialist bracelet makers in the 1930s before seeing production move full in-house, the Oyster bracelet is another icon of Rolex design. With its three-link construction, the shape is both robust and elegant in its simplicity, and is commonly found on tool best quality Rolex replica watches such as the Submariner and the Explorer. Due to its long presence in the Rolex catalog, myriad types of Oyster exist, with different collectors preferring different types.

PCG (Pointed Crown Guards)

A crown guard style in which the crown guards are pointed, as opposed to squared or “eagle’s beak” guards. These can be found on Ref. 5512 Subs from roughly 1959-1963.

Rainbow

Describes a watch in which the bezel is set with a multi-colored array of precious stones arranged in a rainbow pattern. Most often seen on the Swiss movements fake Rolex Cosmograph Daytona, “rainbow” watches (such as the Ref. 116599RBOW) have become increasingly popular with both women and men during the 2020s. (Certain Day-Date models have rainbow-colored hour indices rather than gem-set bezels, but generally aren’t referred to as “rainbow” watches.)

Small Crown

This term generally refers to early Subs that featured a smaller winding crown, such as the references 6204, 6205, 6536/1, and more.

Spider Dial

A type of glossy dial in which the lacquer coating has developed fine cracks, aka “crazing,” resulting in a spider web-like appearance. Though a definite defect, certain collectors are attracted to this look.

Stella Dial

A brightly colored, lacquered dial found on certain replica Rolex Day-Date watches shop from the 1970s and made for Rolex by a company called Stella. These were primarily meant for the Middle Eastern market.

Swiss Exclamation Point Dial

A dial in which a small, circular lume plot below the vertical, rectangular one at 6 o’clock forms what looks like an exclamation point, which is joined by a “SWISS” signature below the chapter ring. This dial featured on Subs, Explorers, and GMT-Masters in the late 1950s/early 1960s for a time.

Swiss Only

Rolex transitioned from tritium lume to LumiNova, a non-radioactive compound, in 1998 or thereabouts, at which point it began signing dials “SWISS.” In 1999, it upgraded from LumiNova to SuperLumiNova, and once again began signing dials “SWISS MADE.” Thus, the so-called “Swiss only” is a transitional—and relatively rare—dial that was only in production for roughly a year.

Super Case

Sometimes mistakenly called a “maxi case,” this describes a Submariner or GMT-Master II case with fatter lugs and a larger bezel, giving the impression of a larger watch even though certain Super cases measure 40mm in diameter like their predecessors.

Tapestry Dial

A dial that features vertical ridges. Sometimes found, for example, on 5-digit Rolex Datejust fake watches site from the late 1970s/early 1980s.

Tropical

A black dial that has turned brown due to degradation of the paint used, possibly due to UV exposure, humidity, moisture, etc. These dials are highly desirable if even in their coloration.

The Newly-Released 2024 UK Top Rolex Replica Watches Price List Shows A More Reasonable Yearly Increase

Without surprises, the arrival of a new year also means subsequent price changes for brands (and this isn’t limited to watch brands, but you’ll find these in multiple other industries). Last year already, we published the newly released price list of Rolex, which showed a rather impressive increase in the RRP of most models, with precious metal and two-tone luxury Rolex replica watches being particularly affected – something we also did in 2022, but then steel models were mostly impacted by this increase. As we’re entering 2024, Rolex has already updated its website with new prices for all references. However, compared to previous years, we might have some good news… or should I say less disappointing news. If we can’t avoid the increase in prices, it is however more reasonable than in previous years, as the 2024 Rolex price list shows, on average, a rise of about 4% of the RRP.

Method: to simplify this 2024 Rolex price list and to have a reliable comparative background to Rolex prices in 2023, we’ll be using the same method as previous years, meaning a year-on-year (YOY) comparison – January 2023 vs. January 2024 – and with the prices in Euro, on the French market, and including VAT. This allowed us to use the article we published last year as a precise comparison, using the same market, currency and models. The only exceptions to note are the 1:1 UK Rolex fake watches that were presented at Watches & Wonders in March 2023. For these recent models (Cosmograph Daytona, Yacht-Master 42 Titanium, Explorer 40, Updated Sky-Dweller, 1908 Collection, Yellow Gold and Rolesor GMT Master II), we’re using the price at the time of their introduction. We’ve also noticed identical price evolutions in the UK and US markets.

In 2023, Rolex started the year, like many other brands from the watch industry (and from other industries), with a rather significant price correction. Most of the models have been impacted by a rise of about 7 to 8% of the price, except Rolesor models (two-tone, steel-and-gold), showing an increase of about 11%. The economic situation in late 2022 and early 2023, with a strong increase in production costs and other expenses (such as the price of energy or raw materials), somehow justified this situation.

Looking at the wider image, according to the OECD, “the global economy continues to confront the challenges of both low growth and elevated inflation, with a mild slowdown (in 2024), mainly as a result of the necessary monetary policy tightening over the past two years. Inflation has declined from last year’s peaks.” The situation isn’t ideal yet but it seems that inflation isn’t growing as fast as it used to in 2023 and prices are rising less quickly. Also, if we’re looking more closely, the watch market isn’t as prolific now as it’s been in 2022 and early 2023. Even if the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry reported that “exports reached their highest-ever monthly level in November (2023)” it also reports a “more moderate rate of growth since the summer.” Also, second-hand prices have corrected and returned to more acceptable levels, with a few exceptions of course.

Rolex being Rolex, it remains a highly hermetic company that doesn’t disclose its sales or production figures (presiding over Montres Rolex SA is a foundation, the Hans Wilsdorf Foundation, which owns and controls Rolex to this day, and there is no requirement to disclose financial statements under the law.) We can’t precisely claim that perfect replica Rolex watches had a more prolific year in 2023 than in 2022, however, several experts such as Vontobel or Morgan Stanley still indicate in their estimates some growing figures. However, the word about easier availability of some references is spreading…

With this situation in mind, it’s time to look at the 2024 Rolex price list. Before we move into the details for each collection, it must be said that this year’s correction is more moderate than it’s been in the past. On average, prices are up 4% with no distinction between materials or models – which wasn’t the case in 2022 and 2023. Let’s now take a look at the detailed 2023 Rolex price list per collection.

Cosmograph Daytona

The case of Rolex’s star chronograph is a bit special since the collection was entirely revamped in March 2023, with best Rolex copy watches starting to be delivered in the second half of the year. Thus, we have to compare what’s comparable, and we’re looking here at the evolution of the price of the 126xxx generation. Indeed, when the collection was introduced, it carried a slight price increase compared to the previous 116xxx generation – a minimal one of 300 euros on a steel version (EUR 14,650 for the 116500LN in January 2023, EUR 14,950 for the 126500LN in March 2023). Overall, the price of the 126xxx sees an increase of about 4%, with a more controlled rise of the platinum edition, while the Rolesor models are a bit more impacted… but surely not as much as in 2023. Also, the Paul Newman-Inspired white gold “Le Mans” reference 126529LN, despite being released later in 2023, is equally impacted.

Submariner and Submariner Date

Whatever the version – date or no date – or the material used, the Submariner collection sees its prices increase by around 4%. No evolution is to be seen in the collection, which is the same as it was when this dive watch was updated in 2020. We can’t note this year the same difference between the steel and the Rolesor version, which was particularly affected by the price increase last year.

GMT Master II

Following an increase of about 7% last year for the steel models – Batman (blue-black BLNR), Pepsi (blue-red BLRO) and Sprite/Destro (green-black VTNR) – all these references are mildly affected by the evolution of prices. Two new models were presented in 2023 at Watches & Wonders, the GRNR versions with yellow gold or yellow Rolesor cases and bracelets. Despite their recent introduction, these two models are equally impacted by the increase in prices.

SEA-DWELLER, DEEPSEA and Deepsea Challenge

Even though there was no evolution in this collection this year, it has to be noted that Rolex’s most impressive dive watch, the Deepsea Challenge, was unveiled in late 2022. As such, it was not impacted by the evolution of the price in early 2023. As expected, this situation has changed now and the gigantic 11,000-metre water-resistant watch also sees its price rise, however from a fairly restrained 2%. The classic 43mm Sea-Dweller and the Deepsea are impacted by the same 4 to 5% rise, as the rest of the high quality replica Rolex watches.

Explorer and Explorer II

As part of what probably was Rolex’s most prolific collection ever (the 2023 range counted no fewer than 9 new sub-collections) was a new Explorer, in 40mm, to sit alongside the vintage-inspired 36mm versions. No surprise for these adventure-themed Swiss movements fake Rolex Explorer watches, which all see their prices rise in the 4% range. The same can be said about the Explorer II.

Yacht-Master and Yacht-Master II

The situation for the Yacht-Master and Yacht-Master II collection has long been different from the rest of the professional collection. Already in 2022 and 2023, we’ve seen disparities in the evolution of prices. This year again, some of the references (YM in Rolesium – steel with platinum bezel) are only impacted by a 2% increase. On the other hand, the Rolesor and YG Yacht-Master II are some of the Rolex replica watches online site with the strongest increase in price this year. The recently introduced Titanium 42mm Yacht-Master is impacted in the same vein as most models.

Air King and Sky-Dweller

In last year’s article, this section also included the Milgauss, which was discontinued in 2023. Now, whether we look at the Air King 126900, a relatively recent model, or the discreetly updated Sky-Dweller of 2023 (new dials, upgraded movement), the increase of the price is in the 4% range, whatever the material used. For the latter, being a model launched in March 2023, we’re comparing the prices at the time of the introduction and the prices now, yet the new model didn’t come with a price increase at the time of its presentation.

Datejust 41 and Datejust 36

Cheap super clone Rolex’s most classic watches, the Datejust, has not been updated in 2023 and the collection remains as wide as it used to be in the past – there are well over 300 versions listed on the brand’s website, taking into account all possible materials, diameters, dial colours, bezel styles and bracelet types. For this reason, we’re only listing here some of the classic references – steel or Rolesor – to give a broad idea of the situation in this collection.

Day-Date 40 and Day-Date 36

Another classic and extremely large collection of Rolex, the Day-Date is exclusively available in precious metals (gold or platinum). Hundreds of combinations are available and for this reason, we’re only listing here the most classic versions, which are all affected by a price increase of about 4%, much less than the evolution of 2023.

OYSTER PERPETUAL 41, 36, 34, 31 AND 28

Last year, Rolex’s entry-level collection, the Oyster Perpetual, faced a massive 11% price increase. Available in no fewer than 5 different sizes, the collection now undergoes a slightly smaller price correction than the rest of the range. The much-discussed Celebration dial presented this year faces the same increase and its price is the same as a model with a flat, monochromatic dial.

Perpetual 1908

A new collection presented in March 2023 and the successor to the top Swiss Rolex Cellini replica watches, the Perpetual 1908 is the most elegant model in Rolex’s catalogue. It also included a brand-new movement, refined decorations and a sapphire back. Knowing its recent introduction, we’re comparing here the prices at the time of its launch and the prices of January 2024.

France Slaps Best Swiss Fake Rolex Watches UK With 91.6 Million-euro Fine For Banning Online Sales

Perfect Rolex replica watches has been slapped with a 91.6 million-euro fine for prohibiting its authorized distributors from selling online for more than a decade, according to a ruling of France’s competition watchdog.

In its ruling, the Haute Autorité de la Concurrence said the watchmaker’s actions were “serious, because they amounted to closing a commercialization channel, to the detriment of consumers and distributors, while online distribution has been growing momentum for the past 15 years for luxury goods, including luxury replica Rolex watches.”

The body rejected the Swiss watchmaker’s argument that banning online sales protected its image and thwarted counterfeiting, calling such a measure disproportionate. It also pointed out that competitors facing the same risks had “put solutions in place (particularly technological)” that allowed them to sell online while fighting counterfeiting and off-network sales.

Given Rolex developed “a program for the online purchase of pre-owned Swiss made Rolex fake watches, whose authenticity it guarantees” with one of its retailers, “an absolute ban on the online selling of its products cannot therefore be justified,” it continued.

AAA Rolex copy watches could not be immediately reached for comment.

For industry experts, the French ruling comes as no surprise.

“You can’t say at the same time you don’t want your product sold over the internet and delegate your certified pre-owned program,” said Oliver Müller, founder of consulting firm LuxeConsult, whose annual reports coauthored with Morgan Stanley are quoted in the watchdog’s conclusions.

According to the 2022 report, the Swiss watch industry represents production of around 16 million top UK replica Rolex watches, with Rolex’s share coming at 1.2 million units in 2022. On the other side, counterfeiters pumping out an estimated 30 million to 40 million high quality Rolex super clone watches onto the black market, particularly popular models from Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet and Omega.

While fighting fakes and dupes is a legitimate pursuit for a brand, restricting one’s retailers from selling genuine product online amounts to a lack of trust, in his opinion.

“Come on, the gray market is those who flip their 2024 Rolex replica watches through marketplaces — whatever channel they bought them on — where there are plenty of fakes too,” he continued.

Only watchmakers with highly integrated, compact retail networks — and smaller outputs — such as Richard Mille and Audemars Piguet would have avoided running afoul of competition laws in France and the European Union, Müller said.

The latter brand produces 50,000 Rolex fake watches for sale each year and has three doors in France (including two it owns) out of a 91-strong retail network worldwide. Richard Mille, which is 10 percent owned by Audemars Piguet, produces 5,300 units, with one store in France and another in Monaco out of 40 doors around the world.

At 1,500 doors worldwide and its million-unit production, it was a gamble too far for China Rolex replica watches, in his opinion.

While expected, the ruling is bad news for Swiss watchmakers in general, according to Müller. “It will most probably trigger similar [rulings] in other countries and cases” against other brands who also restrict online sales, he said.

The Swiss watchmaker was however cleared of restricting prices, as the watchdog found that “the evidence in the case did not prove Rolex France had restricted the pricing freedom of its authorized retailers.”

The case had been referred to the French body by the Union de la Bijouterie Horlogerie professional organization, Marseille-based retailer Pellegrin & Fils and had resulted in raids on best quality Rolex replica watches‘ offices in France.

The Haute Autorité de la Concurrence holds Rolex France, Rolex Holding SA, Rolex SA and the Hans Wilsdorf Foundation ”jointly and severally liable” for payment of the fine.

In addition to the fine, the French competition watchdog imposed that Rolex inform all its authorized retailers of the decisions and publish the summary of its decision on its website in French newspaper Le Figaro online and in print as well as the Montres Magazine quarterly.
